It was the early morning hours of May 30, 2015 when residents of Ridge Avenue awoke to gunshots. The loud bangs echoed through the moonlit street, followed by the screech of fleeing speeding car tires. Driven by a mixture of fear and intrigue, a few rose from bed to peer out their windows. Had their quiet street been the setting of a drive-by shooting?

One resident saw the car, a white Ford F-150, speed away into oblivion. Dread set in, no doubt, the driver had committed a drive-by shooting. When they focused their gaze on the side of the road, dread turned to terror. A teenage girl lay dead near the curb of the street; she had been shot to death. The residents had awoken to murder. Immediately, someone called the police.

Investigators pulled into the usually quiet street at 2:30 a.m. and were greeted by a small crowd of traumatized witnesses. As the detective lined them up for interviews, other investigators secured the scene and examined the young girl’s body. She had been shot multiple times, and likely died within seconds.
