Vanishing on Father’s Day: Where is Kareem Ward?

It’s Father’s Day 2007 in Horry County, South Carolina–an area encompassing Myrtle Beach. 22-year-old Kareem Ward plays with his dog in his front yard while conversing with his cousin. He shares his house with his mother, Ann Warren, who watches from inside. Her son was on a high that day, as he had successfully installed a brand-new stereo system in his Mitsubishi Gallant. The upgraded system appeared to fulfill his expectations.

Ann and Kareem intended to go to his sister Sharonda Mitchell’s house for dinner to celebrate the holiday. Weekly were a regular tradition for the extended tight-knit family. It also presented an opportunity for Kareem to see his nieces, whom he adored. He always encouraged them to hone their musical aptitudes and jokingly referred to himself as the girls’ manager.

“[Kareem] always helped me with my girls, and he encouraged them to do great in school so they can make it in life,” Sharonda told The Sun in 2014.

The siblings’ relationship was likewise robust. Sadly, a childhood tragedy was what drove them together. In 1984, when Kareem was only four months old, their other sister died from sickle cell anemia. Both grew up knowing that…
